The group meets once a month at TCR The Hub, Barnard Castle on the first Thursday of the month from 7pm to 9 pm
Our Meetings for the next few months
4th January –Bellydancing – Back by popular demand, we’ll be learning to shake like Shakira at our bellydancing class with Julie! No clothing is removed whilst doing this so don’t worry! You just get to wear a fabulous coin belt that will make you smile when it rattles! This class is even more enjoyable if you don’t like dancing or dance classes as it’s so easy and lots of fun!
1st February – Painted Wooden Houses workshop – Working with Lynn from Forget me not art, you will be painting little wooden houses to make a beautiful mini road. The houses will be attached to driftwood to make your own unique masterpiece!
7th March – Paper Houses – We needed no excuse to have the lovely Keely, our Pimm’s and Needles celebrity, back out teaching sessions for us again. You might have spotted Keely from KP Papercuts, making beautiful papercut designs on TV on Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas a couple of years ago. Keely has taught papercutting for us in the past and also hosts our Hartlepool Group (as we wouldn’t let her leave us!). Keely will be leading a papercutting session with a difference where everyone will be making 3D paper houses, perfect for a battery-operated tea light! These houses look super cute and we know you will love them!
4th April –Felted 3D Animals – Our needle felting sessions have always been super popular, whether it’s making felted baubles or the 2D felted landscapes that we created at many of the groups in the last block of activities. It’s amazing what you can make within the workshop time-frame and we often find that members are delighted at the designs that can be achieved as a beginner. We’re going to be making 3D Felted animals this time with the help of local artist Fiona Marston. Whether it’s a fox or an Alpaca we’re sure you’ll all create some fabulous felted animals!
2nd May – Grease Sing Along – Ladies, you have been asking us for a singing session for quite some time and we are really excited to let you know that we have found Chris, from The Rise Up Project . Chris is passionate about creating a safe space for people to come and enjoy all the emotional and physical benefits of singing without fear or judgement, no matter what your vocal ability is. The themes of the session is going to be ‘Grease’ with a ‘Pink Lady’ dress code so dig out your pink t.shirts or you might even have a Sandra D outfit at the back of your wardrobe. We will also be fundraising with a tombola and raffle with the proceeds going to the ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ charity as it’s an amazing cause that fits in with our pink evening perfectly. It’s going to be a fun session!
6th June – Frida Kahlo Portrait Painting Session – We’re huge Frida fans here at Pimm’s and Needles, not only of her art but as a person as she embraced her individuality and has become a role model of female determination and power. In this session you will be channelling your inner artist whist our tutor, Philppa from The Creation Station, will guide you through the portrait process using a lovely bright colour palette.
4th July – Folded Book Sculptures – Our upcycling queen Hayley will be teaching this session and breathing a new lease of life into old books. The art of book folding is a very clever concept that allows you to make beautiful paper sculptures. The technique is quite simple however it does require some patience and perseverance with folding! We know with Hayley’s guidance you will all create a fabulous piece of book art to take home. We have a selection of old books for you to use however you are welcome to bring along any books from home that you would like to upcycle.
1st August – Eco Session – We have had several requests over the years to offer a session on sustainability and how to be thriftier. We are very excited for you to meet Ruth, from Ecologico, who managed to not buy anything new for a whole year! Ruth will be inspiring you with her story and will also bringing along her shop van, where she sells environmentally friendly items for the home. In addition, you will be taking part in a clothes swish, this is where everyone brings up to 6 items of pre-loved clean clothes, shoes or accessories. You will be given a ticket for every item you bring along and these tickets can then be placed on your desired items. It’s a super fun way to swap clothes and a great way to try something new! We’re sure you will enjoy this thrifty themed session!
Group Host: Kate Adamson
I’ve been a member of Pimm’s and Needles for about 6 years, the timing has been perfect for me to make the move from member to host as I have left my full time job to launch my own cut flower business. Everyone I have met through Pimm’s and Needles has been so friendly, it’s a monthly boost! And I’ve made lots of new friends. My perfect day would start with a dog walk, I have 3 Labradors called Moss, Todd and Drake. I’d do a little work in my flower borders then finish the day with tea at the pub!
