Working with local Author and Poet Victoria Downes, we’ll be leading you to chanel your inner poet creating a piece of Blackout Poetry. Victoria will be talking about her career as an author and then inspiring you to create your own poem, telling her story of how was inspired when she found a sheet from a book in a park.
For those that haven’t heard of it before, Blackout poetry is a form of found poetry that involves taking an existing piece of text—usually from a book, newspaper, or magazine—and creating a poem by blackening out (or covering) most of the text while leaving behind select words, phrases, or sentences to form a new, often unexpected, poetic creation. The result is a striking piece of artwork that not only highlights the creative process of poetry but also engages with the found text in a transformative way.
We can’t wait to see what you will create!
