The group usually meets once a month at the brand new Merryoaks Community Hall, Park House Road, Neville’s Cross, Durham at the following times:

  • The second Wednesday of the month from 7-9pm

How it all works

  • We are a not for profit organisation (a CIC) and run on tight margins monthly memberships enables us to forward buy materials for the correct number of people and plan effectively. Find our more about us here
  • You can join us as a member by filling in the “Start your Membership” link below, which will ask you for a £15.00 card payment, you will then get details emailed of how to set up your direct debit and become a rolling member. We will then take payment for your first session via the direct debit, so you have always paid for current month and next month. For example if you join on 1st January, and you wish to start at the group in January you will make one card payment then one payment via direct debit.
  • If you’re unable to make one of the dates at your usual group you can transfer to another of our groups during the same month, you can see the fill list of groups and transfer options here its really simple to organise and offers flexibility around other commitments.
  • When you decide to leave simply give us 30 days notice from your last intended session, and we will cancel all future payments as your last session is already paid for. Click here to cancel your membership.
  • We also offer the option of joining for a 6 month block and paying up front, please contact us with the name of the group you’re interested in joining and we can send you some information.
  • You can also join us as a guest to see what you think, or if you want to just come now and again! The “Guest Place” link is below and its £19.50 per session, if this is not available its because the group is full and we don’t have any guest spaces available.
  • Both options include all of the materials you will need for the sessions along with Tea & Coffee.
  • The group is very friendly, you’re welcome to come with friends or on your own! We have flying solo tables for anyone alone where everyone sits together, so you won’t be on your own for very long!
  • You can read more about our groups and our membership by visiting Frequently asked questions or if you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, get in touch!

Group Host: Helen Martin

1. How long have you been a member of Pimm’s & Needles and why did you want to host a group? I joined the group at Coxhoe 4 – 5 years ago, having heard about Pimms & Needles from some of the girls at work. I was keen to help bring ‘the joy of Pimm’s & Needles’ to our new community centre in Neville’s Cross so volunteered to be the host.
2. What do you like best about the groups? I love the opportunity to try new crafts and have fun with like minded ladies, and some ringfenced ‘me time’ every month.
3. What do you generally dislike? Not having enough hours in the day!
4. What would be your perfect day? That is a really difficult question! Would it be possible to combine the sea, countryside, friends, family, laughing lots, chocolate & cake?
5. What sweet treat do you love? Chocolate, any form ( hot, dark, milk, white etc.) and I love cheap white mice which I don’t think have any real chocolate in them at all!
6. Your favourite Pimm’s & Needles activity that you have done before? Painted ducks, I would like to create a flock!
7. Interesting or little known fact about you? I have been a backing singer for Jane Mcdonald! (Admittedly with lots of other people forming a choir, it was not just me & Jane!).
