Our Meetings for the next few months

21st March – Paper Houses – We needed no excuse to have the lovely Keely, our Pimm’s and Needles celebrity, back out teaching sessions for us again. You might have spotted Keely from KP Papercuts, making beautiful papercut designs on TV on Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas a couple of years ago. Keely has taught papercutting for us in the past and also hosts our Hartlepool Group (as we wouldn’t let her leave us!). Keely will be leading a papercutting session with a difference where everyone will be making 3D paper houses, perfect for a battery-operated tea light! These houses look super cute and we know you will love them!

18th April – Zentangle – We’re excited to have the Teesside Tangler joining us to inspire and teach us the art of Zentangle. Joanne the Teesside Tangler, has been sharing her love of Zentangle with us at other groups and it is one of the session’s that’s had everyone talking many members have even taken it up as a hobby! We always giggle at the thought of Amazon having a spike in sales after one of our session. Zentangle is a way to create beautiful images, similar to doodling, by drawing “tangles” using lines, dots, curves and orbs. Zentangle helps increase focus, creativity and self-confidence as well as being a super mindful activity, just don’t blame us if you get addicted!

16th May – Corded Rainbow Workshop – We have the Queen of Macrame, Jess from Knot Worth the Tassle, returning to deliver this Corded Rainbow Workshop. The rainbows are created with a wrapping technique that creates some stunning results. Jess brings a variety of different coloured yarns to choose from and it’s a really lovely relaxed session where you can enjoy a cuppa and a chat!

21st June – Mosaic Workshop – Working with Hayley from Litter Bug Crafts, you’ll make a mosaic to display on a wall or plant pot!

18th July – Eco Session – We have had several requests over the years to offer a session on sustainability and how to be thriftier. We are very excited for you to meet Ruth, from Ecologico, who managed to not buy anything new for a whole year! Ruth will be inspiring you with her story and will also bringing along her shop van, where she sells environmentally friendly items for the home. In addition, you will be taking part in a clothes swish, this is where everyone brings up to 6 items of pre-loved clean clothes, shoes or accessories. You will be given a ticket for every item you bring along and these tickets can then be placed on your desired items. It’s a super fun way to swap clothes and a great way to try something new! We’re sure you will enjoy this thrifty themed session!

15th August – Frida Kahlo Portrait Painting Session – We’re huge Frida fans here at Pimm’s and Needles, not only of her art but as a person as she embraced her individuality and has become a role model of female determination and power. In this session you will be channelling your inner artist whist our tutor, Philppa from The Creation Station, will guide you through the portrait process using a lovely bright colour palette.

Group Hosts: Lynne and Jen

1. My good friend, Lynne, told me that a friend of hers had said that she’d love Pimm’s and Needles as it was ‘her kind of thing’. Lynne then told me  everything she’d learned so far and once I found out more about it I was hooked!
I’d like to be a host as this will give me the opportunity to see other practitioners showcasing their fabulous skills. Plus, I’ll get the chance to work with Lynne even more than I do already! Just over a year ago, a post by Pimm’s and Needles caught my eye. They were looking for tutors. I was already delivering workshops, but these were much larger groups. I was hesitant at first as I’m quite shy. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made, and I haven’t looked back since. Becoming a host was naturally the next step . I’d pushed myself out of my comfort zone, but it felt good! The hosts were so encouraging and super supportive. I’m excited to be able to offer the same support to tutors and help bring Pimms to Gateshead. It also means I get to work alongside my very special friend Jennie!

2. I love to empower women and give them confidence. Pimms and Needles is a great place to do this. It’s inspiring to see so many women giving something new a go. I love how everyone creates something slightly different and unique, too. I love so much about the groups but by far the best bit is getting to meet and learn about the lives of so many lovely ladies.

3 One thing I don’t like is waste – well I say that but other peoples rubbish can be someone elses treasure! I must admit that I dislike the ‘big tidy up’ once I get home with all of my boxes. But who likes tidying up?

4 My perfect day is spent beachcombing and searching for treasures with my dog Spud. I’m at my happiest when I’m on a beach, especially when I find something extra special (like the blue seaglass marble the other day. My perfect day would be a walk along one of the many beaches in our beautiful country, followed by sitting in a hot tub (with loved ones) chatting and looking up at the stars. Oh and a nice glass of red and a cheeseboard would top this off perfectly!

5 Has to be a Turkish delight even though they’re much smaller now! Although as The Cookie Fairy I obviously love cookies my all-time favourite sweet treat has to be hot sticky toffee pudding with a dollop of cool ice cream.

6 The only activity I’ve done is cookie art with Jennie- which I loved ( I loved eating the cookies too). My favourite Pimm’s and Needles activity so far has been glass painting. I did this with my 18 year old daughter and we both had such a lovely evening together.

7 When I was a teenager (in the 80’s) I featured in Blue Jeans magazine. I was in their photo stories. It was good fun – the storylines were a bit cheesy, though! I was actually christened Jean not Jennie. Our godparents got myself and my twin (nickname Jean Bean) mixed up on the day and nobody noticed until it was too late.
